Amid its constant stream of practical additions to the blockchain sector, the renowned cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 innovator Gate.io has partnered with D3 Global, a next-generation domain name company developing interoperable digital identities, to secure the ‘.gate’ Top-Level Domain (TLD).

Specifically, the two companies have teamed up so Gate.io could apply and obtain the ‘.gate’ TLD – the last part of website addresses in the Internet’s Domain Name System (DNS) like ‘.com’ and ‘.org’ – during ICANN’s upcoming application window, according to the press release shared with Finbold.

What this partnership brings

Notably, the approval of a ‘.gate’ TLD would grant Gate.io users the option to create personalized web addresses natively compatible with Web2 and Web3 addresses, serving as a digital identity across Web2 browsers and email services alongside crypto wallets and other blockchain tools.

With this move, Gate.io has become the first crypto trading platform to pursue its own dedicated TLD, following the same course of action as Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Viction blockchain ecosystems back in December 2023, as part of D3’s goal to seamlessly integrate DNS and Web3 technologies.

Indeed, D3’s patent-pending platform aims to address the issue of incompatibility of the existing Web3 naming systems like ‘.eth’ and ‘.crypto’ with traditional Internet infrastructure, leading to problems such as missing critical functions, brand confusion, and security drawbacks.

Therefore, integrating traditional World Wide Web and Web3 systems would ensure improved security, utility, and universal access to the so-called ‘real Web3 domains,’ as the company refers to them, demonstrating Gate.io’s position as an innovator in the field.

Commenting on the development, Gate.io’s founder and CEO, Dr Lin Han, explained what it meant for the platform and the industry in general, stating that:

“Our partnership with D3 will allow us to offer exciting identity solutions that enhance their trading experience and opens the Gate.io ecosystem up to billions of Internet users worldwide while maintaining the safe and secure environment our users have grown accustomed to.”

At the same time, D3’s CEO Fred Hsu shared excitement over making Web3 “more accessible, scalable, and secure with simple, interoperable digital identities built on the DNS,” adding that, this way, Gate.io’s 12 million users worldwide would gain access to the company’s cutting-edge solutions.
