Ukraine has accepted the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States in its ongoing war with Russia, according to a joint statement made after high-level talks in Saudi Arabia.

US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz told reporters in Jeddah after eight hours of talks that the US would submit its ceasefire proposal to Russia for approval.

As part of the diplomatic breakthrough, President Donald Trump agreed to lift a freeze on U.S. military and intelligence support for Kiev, the statement said, adding that plans for a prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia were also discussed during the ceasefire.

“They not only accepted our proposal for a full ceasefire, they made concrete steps and concrete proposals,” Waltz said. “We also went into significant detail about how to end this war permanently, what kind of guarantees they would have for their long-term security and well-being, and also what it would really take to finally end this terrible conflict.”

Ahead of the meeting, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the goal was to determine what concessions Ukraine might be willing to make for a possible peace deal with Russia. After the talks, Rubio said, “we made an offer and Ukraine accepted it.”
