TheNationalCenterforPublicPolicyResearch,aconservativethinktank,hasnotifiedshareholdersofMicrosoftthatitintendstoproposeaBitcoinDiversificationAssessmentatthecompany’sannualmeetingonDec.10,afilingshows.

InaScheduleAfilingwiththeU.S.SecuritiesandExchangeCommissiononThursday,Microsoftlaidoutissuesthatwillbediscussedatthecompany’snextshareholdermeeting.Oneoftheproposalssuggeststhatthetechfirmshouldlookintobitcointohedgeagainstinflationandothermacroeconomicinfluences.

Theboardrecommendsshareholderstovoteagainstthisproposal,thefilingreveals,arguingthatMicrosoftalready“carefullyconsidersthistopic.”

“PastevaluationshaveincludedBitcoinandothercryptocurrenciesamongtheoptionsconsidered,andMicrosoftcontinuestomonitortrendsanddevelopmentsrelatedtocryptocurrenciestoinformfuturedecisionmaking,”accordingtoacompanystatementinoppositionoftheproposal.

“Astheproposalitselfnotes,volatilityisafactortoconsiderinevaluatingcryptocurrencyinvestmentsforcorporatetreasuryapplicationsthatrequirestableandpredictableinvestmentstoensureliquidityandoperationalfunding.Microsofthasstrongandappropriateprocessesinplacetomanageanddiversifyitscorporatetreasuryforthelong-termbenefitofshareholdersandthisrequestedpublicassessmentisunwarranted,”itsaid.

TheNationalCenterforPublicResearch,amemberofProject2025arguedthatbitcoinisan“excellent,ifnotthebest,hedgeagainstinflation,”andthatatminimum,companiesshouldinvest1%ofitstotalassetsintothecryptocurrency.
